Eric Dusenberry with Chasing the Gettysburg Address: a journey through history and storytelling along the road and rediscovering America’s heritage through travel.
In Chasing the Gettysburg Address, documentary photographer Eric Dusenbery retraces Abraham Lincoln’s 1863 journey to Gettysburg—an expedition not only across geography but also through time, curiosity, and memory. Dusenbery reimagines the route from New Freedom, PA to Gettysburg through a contemporary lens—by car and on foot—capturing the people, architecture, and landscapes that continue to define south-central Pennsylvania.

Join Kim Cady, Executive Director of the Lincoln Highway Heritage Corridor for an engaging presentation on the legacy, impact, and future of Pennsylvania’s Heritage Areas, with a focus on the recent strategic developments within the LHHC.
As one of the Commonwealth’s 12 designated Heritage Areas, the LHHC preserves and promotes the rich transportation, cultural, and economic history of the nation’s first coast-to-coast highway across a 200-mile corridor in southern Pennsylvania. In this presentation, Kim will provide an overview of the Heritage Areas Program, share success stories from across the Lincoln Highway, and discuss how these corridors serve as engines for tourism, education, community revitalization, and historical preservation.
The presentation will spotlight the results of the 2025 Management Action Plan (MAP) — LHHC’s first comprehensive strategic update in over 30 years. Attendees will learn how the MAP process involved listening sessions, public meetings, and stakeholder collaboration to guide future programming, signage, education, accessibility, and storytelling.
Dr. Brain Black is the distinguished Professor of History and Environmental Studies at Penn State Altoona. He is recognized as a global expert on energy and petroleum history. His most recent book, Ike’s Road Trip, How Eisenhower’s 1919 Convoy Paved the Way for the Roads We Travel, will be the focus of this presentation. The book is available for purchase at the conference pop-up bookstore throughout the week.
Dr. Brian Black is also participating in a discussion panel on Friday evening following the screening of the PBS documentary, Ike’s Road Trip.

Good Roads, Great Songs — Music Along America’s Highways – Cece Otto with An An American Songline!
In the early days of car travel, the U.S. was crisscrossed with auto trails — an informal network of named roads, marked on telephone poles and the sides of buildings, which motorists relied on to travel from town to town and state to state.
Cece Otto will also be our guest soloist at the Opening Reception as well as have a variety of books and music available for purchase throughout the conference.
